Eastern India Rotary Welfare Trust

A community of Rotarians who believe in serving to change lives

The Eastern India Rotary Welfare Trust was established on the 12th of November 1982 with the purpose of enhancing social development through the establishment of a trustee body comprising Senior Rotarians of the then District 329, later on changed to 3290 and 3240 in 1990 and then 3291 and 3292 in 2008. At present this Trust is managed by District 3291.

The initial founder members aimed to lay the foundation for social eye care and established an ophthalmic care unit for the benefit of society. The current philosophy emphasizes the Trust's mission to achieve sustainable social development.

The trust and its scope of work are entirely overseen by the Trustees of Eastern India Welfare Trust, RI District 3291. It is a prominent trust in Eastern India where Rotarians can witness firsthand, the impact of their contributions to social development.

Introduction of Official Website and Social Media page was initiated.
2023

The Office of the Eastern India Rotary Welfare Trust shifted from 26 Chittaranjan Avenue, Kolkata 700012 to the 3rd Floor of Rotary Techno Netralaya, CN-5, Salt Lake, Sector V, Kolkata 700091. The Office of the EIRWT was inaugurated by the Managing Trustee, Shekhar Mehta, along with all Trustees of EIRWT.

2022

Agreement with AHF/RNN was terminated and withdrawn. A New Agreement for Upgradation of Existing Eye Hospital as Rotary Techno Netralaya (RTN) and Rotary Techno Global Hospital (RTGH) as Multi Speciality Hospital was finalized and signed with Techno India. Group.

Techno India group also provided 2000 sqft of office area in the existing eye hospital to Eastern India Rotary Welfare Trust (EIRWT) for executing necessary office function from 2022 -23.

2021

Unnecessary delay and default in payment the agreement with Barkley Daves Consultant Pvt Ltd was terminated. Letter of Termination of Agreement was issued and security deposit was refunded.

New Proposal from Techno India Group for Hospital Project was invited.

2020

As per the notice of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Trust opened an FCRA—CURRENT account at STATE BANK OF INDIA, 11 Samsad Marg, New Delhi—110001.

2019

A New Proposal from Barkley Daves Consultant Pvt Ltd for Hospital Project was invited and the agreement was finalised.

2018

The residential school project with Help Us to Help Them (HUHT) & Kalinga Institute of School of Science (KISS) MOU with HUHT was initiated and signed with an earmarked funding of 5 crore to be paid in THREE years. Initially, Trust released 1.5 crore to HUHT.

Withdrawal of Agreement with AHF/RNN & Agreement with Madica Pharmacy Pvt. Ltd. (MPPL) was initiated.

2016

The trust adopted the pan-India Rotary Program as the trust's flagship project.

2015

Temporary appointment of auditor for sample auditing of AHF/RNN billing

2011

The Cath Lab with a 10-bedded ICU and dialysis unit was installed under the close supervision of AHF.

2010

Low cost Spectacle project initiated

2009

Hospital Bus provided for free transportation of IOL patient.

2007

Management Agreement with AHF for Management of the Hospital and its further extension.

M/G 50809—TRF letter officially closing the project for 2300 IOLs with RID 5790 USA.

2005

Received Draft No. Dated 06.08.2004 drawn on Canara Bank for the sum of Rs. 11,50,000/-(Rs Eleven lakhs fifty thousand only) as the first installment against Grant No. MG 0450809 for 2300 IOLs with RID.

Trust collects Rs 10,54,000/- from friends & international clubs. Utilized for the construction of low-cost shelter as per the Government of India specifications.

Acknowledge receipt of Rs 10,33,850/- from TRF against M/G # 50901. for 1000 IOLs.

International Partner RID 9640 Australia Community Eye Care Center inaugurated at Hotel Oberoi by Dr. Kiron Mazumdar Shaw in the presence of Mr. Mahendra Swarup, who donated substantial funds towards the same. In a PowerPoint presentation, Dr. Pankaj Rupalia informed that the hospital is in a position to handle 20,000 cataract surgeries per year.

2004

Trust was registered under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India for the FCRA account.

PRIP & Trustee TRF Frank Devlyn visits the hospital. He was very happily surprised to see the expansion of the activity, with an additional 36,000 sft of floor space and the capacity of the hospital to handle 600 outdoor patients per day. He praised the trustees for forging the partnership and noted that the hospital would soon be able to handle 10,000 eye surgeries of all types per year.

2003

Inauguration of the project in four floors of about 40000 sq. ft. Built-up area by Sri Jayendra Saraswati Swamigal, Sankaracharya of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam in the presence of a large number of Ratarians, Donors to AHF and dignitaries at the hospital site.Regular eye hospital starts functioning with two senior doctors and other trained staff from Sankar Nethralaya, Chennai.

and thus act as facilitators to Clubs in the District to

  • Continue it’s efforts & support to expand & equip RNSN to become a large world class Ophthalmologic facility.
  • Take up in earnest the District Rotary Centennial Project of completing 50,000 IOL Eye Operations during 2003-04 and 2004-05.
  • To plan & complete Eye check-up of 5000 school children every year.
2002

Received 2nd Installment of TRF Grant – Rs 84,99,650/- Complete the ground floor of the building at a cost of Rs. 1.20 crores and commenced the Diagnostic Clinic. Meeting with AHF for modalities of taking over management of the Hospital. Sankara Nethralaya (MRF) agrees to tie up with AHF for an eye. Hospital at Rotary Hospital site.

First MOU between EIRWT and Ashia Heart Foundation (AHF) for techno-commercial support as a service provider

EIRWT Eye Hospital was launched by Hon'ble Chief Minister Sri. Buddhadev Bhattacharya of West Bengal in the presence of three others minister and chairman of Bidhannagar municipality.

AHF starts further construction of the 1st, 2nd & 3rd floors of the Building

Trustees decided to take up the Rotary Leadership Institute. program as an activity of the Trust.

RIPD Antonio Serrano visits as the 3H Project Grant routine. external auditor of TRF. He was satisfied with the grant activity and heartily welcomed the idea of the tripartite arrangement with AHF. & MRF.

2001

RIPE Richard & Cherie King visit the site and mention that— “The District Hospital Project of RID 3290 was the most magnificent, most significant & best Rotary Project that Cherie & he had ever seen throughout the Rotary world.”

2000

First installment of TRF 3H Grant of Rs 44,45,694/- received.

1998

The eye hospital building plan was proposed and sanctioned by Bidhannagar Municipality. TRF Site visitor PDG Tom Ewen, in Calcutta for evaluation of the 3H Grant Application. The site visitor expresses their satisfaction with the project. TRF approval letter of grant received, subject to construction of building.

1996

Completed the boundary wall and put up a gate in the South. Western corner.

1995

land was registered and lease deed with possession Certificate for 2.9975 acres / 181.35 cottahs of land was received for the plot no. CN-5, Salt Lake, Sector V, Bidhannagar, from Government of West Bengal.

Applied to TRF for 3H Grant of US$ 300,000/-. International Partners RID 6380 & RID 3280.

1994

The lease deed was executed by the Govt. of West Bengal in favor of E.I.R.W.T.

1990

The Secretary of the Govt. of West Bengal sends a draft of the lease deed.

1998

Balance 50% of the cost of the land deposited vide Receipt No.394.

1987

Rs.8,16,750/- being 50% of the lease hold land salami paid to the Reserve Bank of India in favour of Govt.of West Bengal, vide Receipt No.318.

1986

Application made to the Deputy Secretary, Metropolitan Development Department for concession on the price in view of the not-for-profit nature of the hospital built. By the letter no.2117-Sl/21-50/89(Part-2) of Dy.Secretary,Govt.of W.B. informs that the price of the land is fixed at Rs.9000/- per cottah payable in installments.

1983

Hospital land was allotted by Government of West Bengal
